Even if you are not an experienced painter, you can paint a room like a professional as long as you take the time to do the job right. The first thing you need to do is get organized, which includes getting all of the paint supplies you are going to need for the job. These can include paint, painter’s tape, drop cloths, paint brushes, and more. You can get all of the paint supplies you need at your local home improvement centre (or from companies like Acryloc). Once you have everything you need for the project, it is time to get started. Remember, painting a room is likely to be a two-day project.
Remember, painting a room is likely to be a weekend project, especially if you are working alone. The first day will be spent getting the room ready. You will need to take as much as you can out of the room, and move all of the furniture towards the middle of the room. Cover the furniture with drop cloths, and place more cloths on the floor. Use blue painter’s tape around windows and doors, and remove any electrical outlet coverings. Remove light bulbs from wall light fixtures, and cover the fixtures with plastic. If there is any hardware on the walls that you are painting, such as hinges, knobs or drawer pulls, remove these as well, unless you plan on painting them.
Today is the day that you begin painting the room. You can probably get at least two coats of paint applied in one day. If the room is already a dark colour, you will likely need to put a primer coat on before you can actually apply any colour coats. Or, you can use an all-in-one paint and primer. Keep in mind that even though these are advertised as providing excellent coverage in one coat, don’t be surprised if you end up needing to apply a second coat of paint. You can get all-in-one painting products wherever you find paint supplies. Be sure to use quality paint supplies, such as brushes and rollers. You do get what you pay for, and the higher quality supplies will ensure a more professional looking paint job.
In order to ensure that you have time for two coats of paint in one day, make sure that there is plenty of ventilation in the room. Open any windows, and have a few fans running. This is also a good idea if you have any allergic reactions to paint fumes.
